Rosedale

Neighbourhood History

Rosedale was first settled by Sherrif William Botsford Jarvis and his wife when they moved into their homestead in the early 1820's. It was Mary who gave Rosedale its name due to the profusion of wild roses growing amongst the hillsides of the Jarvis estate. When the family sold their homestead in 1864 development of the new Rosedale subdivision began.

For many years Rosedale has been one of Toronto's most exclusive neighbourhoods with many prominent residents calling it home. It certainly isn't hard to see why. Most Rosedale homes were built from the late 1800s to the early 1900s and styled to resemble elegant Victorian, Georgian and Edwardian mansions. These homes are set amongst beautiful parkland and ravines that wind through Rosedale giving the neighbourhood a tranquil feel, despite the fact you are only moments away from downtown Toronto.
